理事長挨拶
万有財団の更なる飛躍に向けて
万有生命科学振興国際交流財団 会長 兼 理事長 小谷 秀仁
皆様のご支援のおかげで万有生命科学振興国際交流財団は活動開始から20年、また、創立７周年を迎えることが出来ました。これまで当財団を支えて下さった理事、評議員、選考委員、組織委員の先生方、主務官庁であります文部科学省、出損会社である万有製薬など多くの皆様方に、心から御礼申し上げます。
万有生命科学振興国際交流財団は万有製薬のCSRとして始まりました活動をより継続的、発展的に運営するために2002年に設立され、設立当初より次世代を担っていただく研究者、医師、そして国際的なリーダーの育成を支援して参りました。お蔭様で国内の財団の中でもユニークな活動を展開させて頂いていると自負しております。
昨今の社会情勢を見ておりますと経済的にも政治的にも新しい構造への過渡期にあるように思えてなりません。このような時代に当財団の運営に携わることが出来ますのも何かのご縁であり、これからの運営に当たりましては当財団がこれまで築き上げた人「財」育成の精神を大切にしながら、新しい時代の中で飛躍することができる財団を形作らせて頂きたいと思っております。今後はこれまでの事業に加え、医学・生命科学分野への学術支援をより一段と強化し、急速な高齢化の進む日本さらには人類の健康増進に貢献したいと考えております。日本の将来像を見据えたときに、極めて重要でありながらなかなか支援の手が届いていない分野へ、政府とも企業とも異なる独自の視点による活動を新たに計画してまいります。
新しいものは既存の枠を超え、異文化との衝突の中で生まれます。どうぞ新たなる万有生命科学振興国際交流財団にご期待下さい。また、今まで以上のご指導、ご鞭撻をよろしくお願い申しあげます。

Thanks to the support we have received from each and every one of you, we are now happily celebrating 20 years since the start of Banyu Life Science Foundation International activities, and 7 years since the establishment of the foundation itself. I would like to express my sincerest gratitude to everyone including the board of directors, trustees, selection committe members, doctors on the organizing committee, our respected colleagues in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and our financial supporter Banyu Pharmaceutical for their continued support.
Banyu Life Science Foundation International was established in 2002 to manage the continuous development of activities that were started as CSR of Banyu Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and since its beginning, the foundation had been supporting the development of future leaders of researchers, physicians, and international leaders. And thanks to the support of the aforementioned people, we are proud for the development of our activities that are unique amongst the other Japanese foundations.
Looking at the recent changes in Japanese society, it seems that we are in the midst of a transition to a new social structure, both economically and politically. I am fortunate that we are able to participate in the management of the foundation especially in these times of change, while we continue to value the spirit of developing "treasure" like talents that we have helped to develop until today. And I would like to create a foundation that can make even greater contributions in the coming new era. From now on, in addition to our current operations, we would like to further enhance the academic support to the area of medical and life science and to make contribution to the promotion of health of the human society especially in the rapidly aging Japanese society. We will be planning new activities with our unique perspectives which are different from government and other corporate initiatives in the area that are challenged in receiving supports but are extremely important when we think about the future of Japan.
New ideas are born from crossing borders and interacting with different cultures. I hope that you can share in my excitement about the future of the new Banyu Life Science Foundation International, and I look forward to receiving your even greater guidance and encouragement in the future.
